Living Hour – Tous les garcons et les filles

Living Hour has a habit of taking me back to my childhood and they’ve done it again with this rather glorious cover version of “Tous les garcons et les filles”, the Francois Hardy classic. I fell in love with the song, the singer and consequently France as a young lad. It all seemed impossibly sophisticated and otherly. Is that a word? It rhymes with motherly. It certainly didn’t seem motherly. The song is from their new EP “Lovely, Lonely: A Collection of Covers for Hollow Hearts”. It also features songs from Nico, The Ink Spots, and Avi Buffalo. there’s a cracking version of “These Days” on there too with some tearoom piano that breaks your heart. Did you know that Jackson Browne wrote “These Days” when he was only 16? Mental. Also, Jimmy Page played on the original of “Tous les garcons et les filles” and the song is quoted several times by the main characters in J. L. Carr’s 1988 novel “What Hetty Did”? [That’s enough “facts”. Ed.]
