Super World Indie Tune Of The Day 09.04.2020: The Tender Set – “North Sea Holes”.
We are delighted to premiere “North Sea Holes”, the debut single from The Tender Set – it’ officially released tomorrow (10/4/2020) across all major streaming services.
The song is achingly melodic – part fairytale, part sea shanty, part soulful travelog. The beautiful, clean, resonant guitar lines, some lovely banjo picking and Martin’s voice combine to wonderful effect, weaving a modern folk tale that is immediately affecting, taking you away from the every-day from the opening chord. I am intrigued by the King of The North Sea Holes.
Martin says “We were inspired to write about the loneliness of a fisherman out at sea. Lyrically I guess it’s a magical-realist take on the North Sea fishing industry.” We need more of those.
The Tender Set is a London, UK based alternative-folk band started as a collaboration between singer/multi-instrumentalist Martin Lloyd Chitty and guitarist Adrian Jones. Meeting at an evening class at Goldsmiths College in London, Chitty and Jones bonded over a mutual love of artists including Radiohead, Julia Holter, Joni Mitchell, Joanna Newsom, and Fleetwood Mac. They began writing and experimenting together, fusing ambient soundscapes with warm acoustic timbres and thoughtful, literate lyrics. The song will be added to our Spotify and YouTube playlists on release.
