Super World Indie Tune Of the Day 16.07.2019: “Seasonal Beasts” by Prins Obi.
It’s hard to pick a standout tune from Prins Obi’s new EP “Love Tunes for Instant Success” (Inner Ear) as every one is a multicoloured gem. Nostalgic, melancholic and funny, it really is a stunning piece of work. For today let’s go with “Seasonal Beasts”. Coming on like a fusion of heyday Ray Davies and Cat Stevens with an added dose of reality – I know I’m an asshole, you’re a bit of an asshole too – a tune to kill for and sweet production, it’s got to be rocketing into our Top 10 tunes of the year. The rest of the EP is just as good, the final instrumental “Maiden Voyage” could break your heart or mend it. And remember – we’re all assholes.
Prins Obi is the moniker of Georgios Dimakis: musician, pharmacist and member of Baby Guru. Baby Guru are one of my favourite bands and “”Love Tunes for Instant Success” is now one of my favourite records.
