Cats of Transnistria – Candy Man
The waning of the year is upon us, the night has vanquished the day and northerly winds blow chilly and cold. People lapse into long silences, staring into nothingness as the steam rises from scalding cups of tea. Frost sparkles in the dawn light, a silver lining for every cloud. Thoughts turn to Christmas and ghosts roam the street, free from the shadows, they become almost real, leading you back into the past. Yes, the onset of Winter is my favourite time of year. “And do you have a song to echo those feelings?” I hear you ask as you tap your pipe out on the hearth, and warm your brandy over the dying embers of another November evening. Why, yes of course I do. Are we not SWIT? This is “Candy Man” by Cats of Transnistria. It’s a beautiful, ethereal, gothic masterpiece. Play this and the ghosts will come rushing in.
“Candy Man” is the second single from the cats’ new LP “Opium” which will be released on Soliti on the 2nd February 2018. The music video is based on the movie ‘Svengali’ (1931), re-edited by Heta Saukkonen and Henna Hietamäki. The film depicts a controlling musician who hypnotises a young belle to fall under his spell. The themes of love, submission, and control are repeated within the story of ‘Candy Man”. The song will be released through all digital outlets on the 1st of December 2017.
Now pass me the Borkum Riff, I’m dying for a smoke.
