Autumn is my favourite time of year and here she comes, that season of mist and mellow fruitfulness when we take to the woods like the wild animals we are and forage for blackberries, chestnuts, fir cones and the like …. and that brings me nicely [terrible segue. Ed.] to Fir Cone Children and the rather ingenious “Gravity Girls”. Like a marriage between a polar bear and walrus, it shouldn’t work but it does, somehow producing beautiful furry children with sharp tusks and long claws. It’s lo-fi punkified surf rock combines with blissed-out Beach Boy harmonies to give you something quite unique and pretty damn smile-inducing too. It’ll tear you apart if you let it.
