A different class of Clientele

on

Late summer is such a wonderful time of year when the feckless sun slips a little lower in northern skies and the dusty heat leaves a taste of nostalgia lingering on the tip of your oh so very sweet tongue. My mind races back to woozy Saturdays on Camden Lock and then shuttling home on the overground underground through suburban London fields.

Out into the outskirt’s edges
Where a few surviving hedges
Keep alive our lost Elysium – rural Middlesex again.

And you may ask to what end do I recollect and ramble on and on? And the answer is this – the magnificent late summer delight (what a melody) that is the new single “Everyone You Meet” by one of my favourite bands ever – The Clientele. Their new LP, and first in 7 years, “Music for the Age of Miracles” is out in September on Merge Records / Tapete. They really are the Betjeman of indie pop. Unless they hate Betjeman.
