Interfew with: Musique Le Pop

We featured the excellent Musique Le Pop earlier in the year in our roundup of current Norwegian music. We caught up with the band to find out a little more about their music and influences.

C = Christoffer J = Jon Kristian E = Elisabeth

What was the first tune you loved and why?

C & J: Probably the intro to “Jul i skomakergata” (Norwegian classic Christmas show from the 80s) it`s a very cozy song.

E: The first song i can remember is the theme from the children show Colargol, because it is a super catchy song and I loved the doll so much.

What is your favorite song/piece of music that you’ve written and why do you think this?

C: I made a song with my other project Remington super 60 called “You used to be my baby pt.2”. I recorded this when I first got into home-recording back in 2000, the sound is very lo-fi but i think its a very good song! (yes, it’s class)

We are also working on a new Musique Le Pop song these days that I am so in love with! TBA.

J: I have a solo project called Safariari and I recently finished an EP. I guess your latest work is always going to be your favorite, so right now it is a song called DdxX from that EP.

E: I made a song called “spinning in space” with my pseudonym Poodles Caroli, I love the feeling of it, it will soon be released. However my favourite Musique Le Pop song is Mateo, its so fun! Especially the cool video my friends Sigrid and Camilla made. Check it out:

And yes we have time to work on new Musique Le Pop material even tho we have so many side projects 🙂 MLP is our main project!

What song by another artist do you wish you had written and why?

C: “Surf’s Up” by The Beach Boys, what a gem! The production, buildup, melody is magnificent.

J: “Love Me Do” by The Beatles. It’s a hit!

E: Deee-Lite – “Groove Is In The Heart”, it makes me super happy after all these years.

What artist(s) has been your biggest influence and in what way?

C: Burt Bacharach, Brian Wilson & Cornelius (Keigo Oyamada) because of the melodies and production.

J: Cornelius (Keigo Oyamada) for the way he mixed electronics and guitar music in such a new way already back in the 90s.

E: Jean Jaques Perrey, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Latin Kings, Asha Bhosle and Remington super 60.

Name a song that makes you smile.

C: The Norwegian band Toy with their song “Rabbit Pushing Mower”.

J: Legs 11 with “Pessimist”. It might not sound like something that makes you smile, but it actually does.

E: Break Machine – “Street Dance”.

What is the best new band that you’ve heard recently?

Torkelsen, Legs 11, Prunk Møbel and, of course, our label-mates The Sunshine Spectacular from Tasmania.

What’s your favourite radio station?

P13, the only radio station in Norway that play the bands other stations won’t, including Musique Le Pop.

Who would win a fight between a drummer and a bass player, and why?

The bass player has a big bass he could punch the drummer with, the drummer only has two small sticks, so the bass player.

What song would you like to have played at your funeral?

C & J: Oh difficult question, I don’t want to think about that yet smile emoticon Ask us in 50-60 years! 🙂

E: Alessi Brothers – ” Sea Bird”.

What question would you like to be asked that you never are?

C: Whats your favourite Casio keyboard?

Probably not this one….

J: Wow, where did you find that great box?

E: Hey, can you make shoes for the King and Queen?
