Netsayi is a singer/songwriter from Zimbabwe. She was born in London when her parents were in exile from Southern Rhodesia. The family returned to Zimbabwe after independence in 1980 when she was 7 years old. She started writing poetry and performing as a solo singer around this time.

Upon returning to the UK  at the turn of the millennium,  Netsayi built her reputation performing a cappella in London’s smaller venues. Her first two albums released in the UK – Chimurenga Soul and Monkey’s Wedding received critical acclaim.

Netsayi went back to Harare in 2010, where she put together the band, Black Pressure, featuring some of Zimbabwe’s finest musicians.  In 2012, American composer Paola Prestini saw Netsayi & Black Pressure at the Harare International Festival of Arts (HIFA), and a number of trips to the US quickly followed. Four visits to the US in 2013/4 saw the group play rapturously-received east coast shows. Netsayi returned to the US in November 2015 to present a series of major composing commissions, including work as artist in residence at National Sawdust in New York (see YouTube clips below). Look out for upcoming release, Mineral X.

Have a listen, we’re sure you’ll be blown away.
